Bookhut Case Study

I completed this project while enrolled in the Cal Arts UX Fundamentals course. The prompt was to choose a topic of interest and create an app from start to finish, following the standard case study format. As an avid reader who was disappointed by the current reading apps on the market, I wanted to work on improving that digital experience.

Solo Project: UX/UI Design
Duration: 3 weeks, Summer 2021
Tools: Figma, Illustrator

Overview

To determine how people prefer to keep track of books now through user research and design an app that best serves their needs and wants.

Challenge

Create an app for booklovers to

  • keep track of their reading

  • discover new books

  • share their reading journey

Goal

01 Research & Ideation

Competitive Analysis

Bookhut’s overall premise isn’t entirely unique - there are existing apps out there catering to avid readers. The problem is that these apps have clunky or outdated UI, or lack the features users want.

I first took a look at the top reading apps on the app store to get a sense of what reviewers were happy with, and what needed to be improved.

Pain Points

Summarizing competetive analysis findings to arrive at key pain points.

User Persona

Crafting a user persona to keep in mind the goals of users to create the most useful and enjoyable app.

Sitemap

Deciding the necessary features and thinking through the logical flow of the app for a seamless experience.

02 Wireframing

Wireframes

Sketching out key screens and features based on the sitemap I developed.
